The much anticipated Argyll Whisky Beer re-opened its doors on June 7th to a crowd of excited friends and family. The restaurant, a concept by Robert Thompson – founder of Punchbowl Social, Griffin, and Le Grande bistro – put on quite the party, serving Whisky Sours and lavender-infused gin cocktails. The food was just as amazing, with items such as house-made cranberry kielbasa, oysters on the half shell, and rosemary-scented ham. The cozy restaurant – modeled after a traditional Scottish pub and paying homage to the Thompson family crest – occupies the former Las Margaritas space on 17th and incorporates a few unexpected finds. When workers were demolishing the restaurant space they pulled up existing floor tiles and found white marble tile and hand-planked wood floors below – all original to the building. These details along with reclaimed windows and custom-designed wall coverings make the space feel welcoming as soon as customers walk in the door. Argyll offers an impressive whisky list as well (over 200!) and a custom-made beer pouring system constructed from a massive plumbing pipe. The Argyll is a one-of-a-kind space that feels instantly familiar, yet with so much to discover.
