Built in Lockheed Martin’s former rocket assembly building, the new GPS III Processing Facility has nearly 40,000 square feet of assembly and test areas for new GPS III satellites. A 32,900 sf SCIF-level, Class 100K clean room high bay serves as the “factory floor” and houses assembly stations, a solar array test fixture, and a space vehicle transfer fixture.
For accurate testing purposes, a 962 sf thermal vacuum chamber simulates the conditions of space. A 2,880 sf, two-story anechoic test chamber allows testing of antennas and telemetry equipment without sound or electromagnetic interference. Lockheed personnel oversee key facility operations in four overhead test control rooms.
