Red Hawk Ridge combines classroom space for 650 K-5 students, a special education pre-school for autistic 3 and 4-year-olds, and the Child Find Program which identifies and evaluates special needs children from birth to 4 years. Accommodating these uses together required a large amount of square footage, but the site identified for Red Hawk Ridge was too small for the standard single-story prototype used by the District for all new elementary schools. The final design stacks prototype components in two-story blocks, keeping design costs minimized while utilizing the original site which had already been purchased.
