The American Planning Association recently named the Boulder Pearl St. Mall as a “Great Public Space.” A part of OZ history, the Pearl St. Mall was completed in 1977 by Architect-of-Record Everett Zeigel (the “Z” in OZ), in collaboration with Sasaki Associates. In 2002, after 25 years of successful pedestrian use, the Mall needed to be refreshed. Members of the original design team were re-assembled to create a new plan that would respect the original goals and design intent of the project. The Boulder Pearl St. Mall, often referred to as the Crown Jewel of Boulder, is nationally recognized as a sterling example of innovative downtown revitalization and a really Great Public Space!
