OZ Principal Architect, Jami Mohlenkamp and Enterprise Green Communities, will host a webinar Friday, June 17th , to launch the Aging-in-Place Toolkit which allows residents to remain in their communities as they age. OZ was awarded the opportunity to develop this program in September 2015 as Enterprise identified a need for guiding principles that better serve a growing population of aging residents.
Aging-in-Place strategies allow spaces to adapt as residents age in order to reduce stress, increase comfort and safety, and enhance quality of life. Designing for changing needs requires in-depth analysis of the obstacles that face aging residents in their daily lives and to create solutions that improve physical spaces and overall lifestyles. Not only does aging-in-place remove barriers for an aging population, but it is also a more sustainable solution by allowing older adults to remain in their current residence rather than the construction of more specialized housing.
OZ collaborated with Enterprise to create a toolkit that compiles Aging-in-Place strategies, resources, and prioritization tools to create innovative and inviting design while addressing the specific needs of aging residents. The toolkit offers design guidelines for both new construction as well as existing buildings seeking strategies for rehabilitation.
Enterprise is a nationally renowned group dedicated to supporting sustainable and affordable housing through their Green Communities rating system. Enterprise is committed to ensuring that aging residents have affordable options to live independently in quality design with the specific needs of their health, safety, and comfort in mind. OZ is proud to work with Enterprise on this exciting opportunity to share our expertise and knowledge of design for all ages and abilities.
