OZ Architecture will lead the effort to convert Denver’s Historic Cathedral High School building at 1840 Grant street into a new boutique hotel developed by GFI Development Company. The Seton House and the Historic School, both once owned by the Archdiocese, occupy this site and will be renovated and re-purposed for a new hotel while simultaneously celebrating the building’s heritage throughout the exterior and interior.
The school’s former gymnasium is located across the alley mid-block on Logan Street, which the design team plans to preserve while transforming it into a portion of the hotel. A ground-up building is planned for what is currently the parking lot adjacent to north of the gym. The historic gymnasium building will become a very unique amenity space, which will open its doors to the local community to enjoy.
“Adaptive reuse such as this is the perfect way to retain Denver’s historic buildings during this period of unprecedented growth, while still creating the infrastructure we need as a city, including more hotel rooms,” said Rebecca Stone, managing principal for OZ Architecture and lead architect on the hotel project.
