Via’s mission is to promote independence and self-sufficiency for people with limited mobility by providing caring, customer-focused transportation options. The multi-purpose administrative/operations center supports maintenance, fueling, dispatch, and education functions for Via in a single facility. Utilizing a terraced design that maximizes views above while screening parking and storage below, the building contains offices, classrooms, driver break areas, a scheduling/dispatch center, and classrooms for public education, travel training, and mobility assessment. Conference space is used to promote community transit use in partnership with city and county governments. The full-service maintenance facility includes 6 bus bays with lifts/pits, a drive-through wash bay, and a CNG fueling station. A roof-mounted photovoltaic array provides alternative energy payback and natural light is harvested through an east-facing clerestory, while light shelves help to reduce heat loads by reducing light usage. This one-stop shop for Via buses, employees, and passengers has proved to be efficient, cost-effective, and convenient.
