From Day to Night: Gravity Haus’s White Rabbit Tavern

August 8, 2024

Gravity Haus’s White Rabbit Tavern blends modern design with community spirit, transforming from a cozy daytime coworking hub to a vibrant nighttime lounge, all while celebrating the adventure and landscape of Steamboat Springs.

The newly renovated White Rabbit Tavern, on the ground floor of Gravity Haus, celebrates the vibrant spirit of Steamboat Springs. Ideally located slope-side adjacent to the Steamboat Gondola, the venue offers more than just a classic American-style tavern; it embodies the sense of community and adventure that define this mountain town.

Collaborating closely with the owner and design architect, OZ helped spearhead the transformation of this space from a segmented and single-purpose use to an open, multi-use area that has become the heart of this renovated hotel. While remodeling the existing space – infusing it with a modern aesthetic and contemporary amenities, reflecting the evolving lifestyle preferences of guests and locals alike – we kept community a focus in reflection of one of Gravity Haus’s mottos: “Community first, everything else will follow.” Also vital to the renovation was the reuse of the existing building, which Gravity Haus sees as a factor of environmental stewardship and an essential part of their business model.

This focus on community reflects the evolution of the hotel common area into a more dynamic environment that seamlessly transitions uses from day to night: coffee and casual coworking to a bustling restaurant and lounge. By embracing open floor plans, full-window walls, and high ceilings, the space maximizes visual connections to the surrounding mountain landscape. This sense of openness in the tavern offers a unique experience transcending traditional hospitality settings. At the same time, the seamless flow between dining and lounge areas amplifies the ambiance and energy of the space.

From hospitality to office and multifamily, we’re incorporating more of these ultra-flexible spaces into amenity areas to optimize activation, community building, and revenue opportunities for our clients from morning to night. This project and bar exemplify our commitment to reimagining existing properties and breathing new life into outdated, underutilized spaces. As Gravity Haus continues to expand its portfolio of renovated properties, OZ remains at the forefront, shaping environments that inspire connection, adventure, and community.
