Gravity Haus Aspen: A Modern Gathering Place Rooted in Community

December 18, 2024

In the heart of Aspen’s historic downtown, Gravity Haus Aspen reimagines how people connect, work, and play. With its carefully preserved 1976 architecture and modernized interiors, this 13,000-square-foot renovation balances respect for history with innovative design and repositions the space primarily as an exclusive members club. As the Architect of Record, and in collaboration with Studio Lemonade and Gravity Haus, OZ transformed the space into a vibrant clubhouse that combines public amenities and exclusive member experiences.

Preserving History while Enhancing an Asset
Located within Aspen’s Historic Preservation District, the project required adherence to stringent guidelines while addressing critical structural and functional challenges to future-proof the structure. Some betterments included a reinsulated roof, terrace waterproofing, snowmelt system repairs, and ADA updates.

A Space for Every Need
Gravity Haus Aspen offers a blend of public and private spaces, catering to a wide range of community needs, including:

  • Public Offerings: The street-level coffee shop and restaurant are available to the public, maintaining Gravity Haus Aspen’s and the building's historic connection to the greater community.
  • Exclusive Amenities: Club members can access exclusive coworking spaces, ski lockers, a fitness center, and a lounge serving meals and après-ski offerings. These spaces are designed for today’s adventurers, including locals and visiting members.

Membership: More Than Access
The core of Gravity Haus Aspen is its membership model, which fosters a member community in a town known for its tourism. Membership includes coworking access, fitness facilities, and premium experiences, creating a hub for locals and visitors seeking connection, adventure, and convenience. Members of the Aspen location also have reciprocity at other Gravity Haus spaces.

Designed for Sustainability
At OZ, sustainability is always a guiding principle. For Gravity Haus Aspen, reusing an existing historic asset is an intrinsically sustainable approach. We also emphasized energy efficiency, material reuse, and low-emission finishes. While not pursuing formal certifications, the project reflects thoughtful environmental stewardship. The design choices welcome a diverse community of users—from entrepreneurs and adventurers to those simply seeking a warm and inviting space to unwind.

A Launchpad for Adventure
Gravity Haus Aspen combines history, modern design, and functionality to create a destination where people can gather, recharge, and launch into their next adventure. Whether grabbing a coffee, working in the coworking space, or relaxing in the member lounge, the Gravity Haus offers something for every member.

Gravity Haus Aspen embodies the spirit of community and modern mountain living, focusing on connection, flexibility, and adventure. The club provides a place to meet, work, and play in one of Colorado’s most iconic settings.
