Just this month (February 2018), OZ Architecture was named a winner of the WoodWorks 2018 Wood Design Awards. The Wood Product Council announced the winners, celebrating excellence in wood building design nationwide. These national and regional winners are leaders in their field whose designs exemplify the use of wood in the built environment.
WoodWorks honored OZ Architecture with a regional award for our design of Boulder’s The Loading Dock, alongside structural engineer, KL&A, contractor, Quinlan Construction and the visionary development team at Crescent Real Estate. View a gallery of The Loading Dock here.
The Loading Dock is the first commercial project in Colorado to fully utilize cross-laminated timber (CLT), and one of only a few in the nation to integrate CLT into its walls, floors, roof and structure. OZ Architecture’s team designed the two-story CLT office uniquely to connect to an existing warehouse space which they adaptively reused as an open creative office. This connection was achieved by an elevated outdoor boardwalk and floor-to-ceiling wood windows to help create a warm, engaging and energetic space. Exposed structure and a weathered steel façade help reinforce the natural authenticity of this special landmark project for the community.
This year’s winning designs emphasize sustainability, cost-savings, structural performance, and flexible, adaptable spaces.
