Leading the Way in Cross-Laminated Timber

January 4, 2023

While cross-laminated timber (CLT) or mass timber seem to be the buzzwords in design right now, the reality is that just a few years ago, commercial application was almost nonexistent in Colorado. OZ Architecture Associate Principal Joe Anastasi had the opportunity to talk recently with Modern in Denver about the role OZ and our forward-thinking clients at Crescent Real Estate LLC played in laying the groundwork for the growth of mass timber as a trend in commercial design here in Colorado.

This is an area of design and building science that OZ has long been passionate about advancing. Since the completion several years back of Platte Fifteen, Denver’s first commercial project to utilize mass timber, we’ve been working with our clients as well as talking with our project partners and with cities and municipalities from a code perspective to expand the possibilities for building with mass timber – from taller buildings to new applications for industries like life sciences.

We look forward to sharing more on progress in this regard work soon. In the meantime, head over to the Winter Issue of Modern in Denver to learn more about the history – and the future – of mass timber here in Colorado.
