OZ Architecture Tapped by Triple Crown Casinos to Expand and Revitalize Cripple Creek

OZ Architecture has been chosen by market-leader Triple Crown Casinos to design an expansion of its property in Cripple Creek, Colorado that will help elevate the area’s appeal to guests, create 150 new hotel rooms in the historic town, and offer a unique new experience for guests.

The project will create a third hotel option adjacent to the company’s Brass Ass Casino to complement the current accommodations in JP McGills Hotel and Casino and the Midnight Rose Hotel Casino. The investment is intended to drive increased tourism and create economic opportunity for the residents.

Triple Crown Casinos are located in the town’s most notable landmark buildings, drawing local, regional and out-of-state visitors who enjoy the area’s mining history, the stunning mountain setting and gaming activity. OZ’s vision for the new hotel will conform with the town’s historic preservation guidelines, while adding a new building to the south along E. Myers Ave and spanning S. 3^rd Street.

“We are working with the town to span 3^rd Street with a grand entry canopy and bridge that houses the meeting rooms within the trusses,” said OZ Design Principal Dan Miller. “By improving the building’s access and sense of arrival at the property, we can elevate the guest experience.”

The vision for this expansion will feature meeting and wedding event spaces, new upscale dining options, a lobby barista cafe, a rooftop bar and lounge, and an interior aesthetic that today’s entertainment seeker expects.

“The renovations in Cripple Creek are focused on the hospitality experience rather than gaming because today’s traveler wants a sophisticated hotel option, access to the nearby outdoor adventures and interesting retail and dining options,” said Rebecca Stone, managing partner, OZ Architecture. “All the while it’s critical we retain the legacy of this special mining town, including the unique features of the buildings, the facades and the overall authentic spirit of Cripple Creek.”

In another move to confirm its role as market leader, Triple Crown Casinos is in the process of acquiring The Gold Fever Inn to help alleviate the city’s crucial workforce housing shortage.

Located at 123 W. May Avenue, The Gold Fever Inn features 53 rooms as well as underground parking.

“With limited housing opportunities in our town, we have faced the challenge of acquiring and retaining quality employees,” said Chief Executive Officer Larry Hill. “We see this acquisition as an ideal way to meet that challenge and provide affordable, comfortable and safe housing for our staff.”
