North Cache Branded Hotel and Residences in Jackson Hole was discussed last night at the Town of Jackson Hole DRB meeting, and we are eager to share its initial design. The project is two full city blocks and includes 82 hotel rooms, 31 branded residences, a 6,000-square-foot restaurant, and a 14,000-square-foot spa. The design is uniquely Jackson Hole.
The exterior features divided-light glazing, dark-sky lighting that highlights the architecture while remaining hidden from view, exposed timber structures, and cantilevered overhangs. The street presence is only the preview. As guests arrive via the internal alley court, the site's design unfolds around a sculptural hotel entrance. It's a version of Jackson Hole hospitality that, once complete, brings a sense of discovery and delight to the guest.
Project components are distributed across six buildings on the site that are connected by a below-grade program. It was the Town’s form-based code adoption that shaped massing decisions, but the design teams, OZ Architecture and Upwall Design, turned the city's constraints into the project's defining idea. The result is a collection of dynamic timber structures linked by pedestrian walkways and residential-scale massing. This creates an intimate, welcoming experience.
The hotel's scale creates opportunities few hotels can match. Families can book an entire floor, and weddings or special events can buy out the whole property. Guests move between buildings, not down a single repetitive hallway, and the property is designed to be experienced like a walkable, livable destination.
The branded residences carry that same intimacy into daily life. Most units will have private elevator access, no shared lobby, and no interior hallway to cross. The same elevator will continue up to a rooftop terrace, where residences have private hot tubs. The project's operator, known for its culinary expertise, will extend butler-level service into those homes, with a chef preparing the meal in a resident's kitchen or finishing a meal on-site, coordinating with the hotel's kitchen.
The wellness space and other amenity services are designed around the same philosophy of personalization over prescription. Rather than booking a single treatment at the spa, guests can move through the spa to the hot tub, cold plunge, salt room, and ice room, in any order they choose. This premium treatment extends into Jackson's popular ski season, where guests are fitted for rentals on-site, with a concierge handling the trip to the mountains, no separate stop at a rental shop required.
North Cache's architecture introduces a fresh look to Jackson Hole's Downtown. The surrounding blocks feature covered porches and timber storefronts in a western style that has endured in Jackson for decades. The project's design responds with extensive glazing, cantilevers, and sculptural rooflines, still honoring its location in both material selection and scale.
Upwall Design is shaping the exterior architecture; their distinctive custom residential design is evident in the sculptural rooflines, glazing, and natural material selections. OZ is the Architect of Record, and we are designing the interior layout of the non-residential spaces in the development: hotel rooms, restaurant, shared amenity areas, and all programming and operational components associated with the site's offerings. Our teams have worked side by side throughout the design process, translating Jackson's building requirements into decisions the architecture can absorb rather than fight, where a form needs to pull back, where a window can or can't go, and where a building needs to shift to meet the town's expectations for the site.
This project is an exercise in creative compliance, not form-based code architecture.
North Cache exists as a vision - a block reimagined. When construction is complete, it will offer Jackson a redefined version of luxury, with a bold facade visible from the street, while keeping the true destination to be discovered by visitors and locals alike.
