Denver 9-1-1 Communications Center

A crucial component in the safety network is the 9-1-1 Communications Center, and in 2015 OZ was hired to relocate Denver’s primary 9-1-1 Communications Center to a much larger building that would allow this program to grow along with the city’s population. While working with McLaren, Wilson and Lawrie, who directed the programming effort, OZ led the project through design and construction with occupancy occurring in May 2019. The project challenges included remodeling a 1970’s structure to meet the increased structural and security classifications for this critical operations use, along with updating the electrical and communications infrastructure to meet the current and future demands of this essential agency.

The unique nature of the building’s use and the extensive amount of renovation to the building systems to meet current code drove home the need to meet early and often with all of the building department agencies so that we could work together to interpret the unique code conditions that we encountered.
