Located on an 8.25-acre campus in Denver’s historic Highlands neighborhood, the Mullen Residences at the Highlands is undergoing a transformative renovation that honors its legacy while embracing modern senior living. Originally gifted by philanthropist JK Mullen to the Little Sisters of the Poor in 1918, the site includes two buildings of historical significance that are being thoughtfully restored as part of the project. Complementing the existing Italian Renaissance Revival architecture, a new 354,485 SF four-story building with below-grade parking is being added to the campus. The community will offer a continuum of care, including independent living, assisted living, and memory support.
At the heart of the design is a dramatic main lobby and grand staircase that leads to a vibrant town center. Amenities include a formal dining room that opens outdoors to al fresco dining, a club room with shuffleboard and a golf simulator, a casual bistro, salon, fellowship hall, and a wellness center featuring a fitness area, yoga studio, and spa. From their units, residents will enjoy expansive mountain views to the south and west and city views of downtown Denver to the east, especially from the fourth-floor Skylounge.
This project reimagines a cherished historic campus into a state-of-the-art community that supports aging with dignity, connection, and vitality.
